The Problem and Solution
The previous template used by the sales development and scientific applications teams was outdated and inaccessible. With the expansion of both teams and an increased output of online learning, it was time to scrap the old template and replace it with an accessibility first approach.
It was important to have a project that was both useful for the training teams to use and rewarding for the learners to experience. This meant creating a template that was intuitive and robust, while also being visually pleasing and fully accessible.
The Process
The project kicked off by organizing and hosting a brainstorming session with both teams. Taking a human-centered design approach, it was important to understand the needs and desires of our learners. Through the development of personas and empathy maps, we were able to understand that our learners access our courses for a number of reasons. For this reason, it was essential that flexibility, consistency, and information architecture were among the guiding principles in the development of the template.

Once my goals were identified, I created a few prototypes using accessible fonts and colors to get some user feedback. From there, I was able to narrow down the overall look and structure of the new template and begin creating and conducting accessibility tests on each concept that would make its way into the final product.
The Results
The outcome of the project is a comprehensive and versatile template that offers a wide range of concepts and variations for developers to choose from. This template has undergone rigorous accessibility testing, ensuring that every slide meets the necessary accessibility standards. Developers can now confidently use the template, knowing that all interactive elements, such as triggers, links, and items in the focus order, have been carefully considered and optimized for accessibility. The result is a robust and inclusive template that promotes equal access to learning materials for all users.
